Frequently asked questions.

What is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is the collection of muscles and other tissues in the bottom opening of the pelvis. Included are also the urethra, rectum, and vagina (if you have one). The main jobs of the pelvic floor are to control the need to use the bathroom, sexual function, and to provide stability and support to the body and pelvic organs.

Who benefits from pelvic floor physical therapy?

Individuals who struggle with incontinence (inappropriate loss of urine or stool), constipation, increased frequency of urination, pain during or after sexual activity, diastasis recti, chronic hip/low back pain, painful sitting, and more. These problems can present at any time in life but are especially common during pregnancy and after childbirth. There are also benefits to pelvic floor physical therapy with conditions such as interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome), endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, reproductive cancers, fertility issues, and more.

Why choose Health in Motion Physical Therapy?

You will always see the same provider with extensive training and experience. Cynthia is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and will use her education and experience to develop a care plan specific to you and your life experience. No cut-and-paste care plans here.

Why is care delivered in my home?

Pelvic health physical therapy covers some of the most personal and intimate parts of life such as bladder, bowel, and sexual function. Being in your comfort space allows even more effective programming. Plus, many of our clients are new parents or parents of young children, easing the burden of travel and childcare.

Is Health in Motion Physical Therapy in-network with my insurance?

No is the short answer to the question. We have chosen to be out-of-network with insurance companies allowing us to deliver exactly the care our expertise says you will benefit from. In a field where insurance expectations are based on general recommendations for orthopedic physical therapy care, insurance expectations don’t always match how the field of pelvic health is most effective for your improvement. We are able to provide billing information for you to submit for out-of-network benefits or to a health-sharing plan.

Who does Health in Motion Physical Therapy serve?

We care for any individual who is 18+. Though the most frequently seen conditions can change based on gender, age, and life experiences anyone can have pelvic floor related conditions. In addition, sometimes an individual’s “problem” seems orthopedic in nature but has not responded to conventional treatments as the pelvic floor is the missing component. This can be a trend commonly seen in chronic hip and low back pain.
